The romance industry can help to remind us of the virtues of love and what love requires to thrive for a lifetime. For as we keep focus on other goals, it is healthy to have this reminder of whom matters most and that we need to pay attention to the needs of our lover.
When we are challenged to see the perspectives of others, to see them as people with dreams and needs, and not a means to a romantic ends - then relationships have a greater chance to thrive. And so we need a romance industry that does not move male characters around the plot as if they were pawns, but instead teaches a more wholesome view of love as protection and nurture for each partner.
