I think we all need a sense of society, of knowing folks, of familiar faces and a degree of predictability... of stability. Going to my favourite cafe, that tiny restaurant, was my way of having that in my life. There are times when friends are distant, family too, and going there for a coffee gave me what my soul needed.
I went there so much, to that restaurant, that I became firm friends with the owner and staff. We greeted one another as family. I guess that's part of the way we get a sense of community in a busy city.
Upon that patio, feeling the warm sunshine, inhaling the aromas of the lunchtime dishes, the restaurant had become a second home.
The restaurant was my happy place in the day, a place where I could be quiet and serene, watch the world go by and contemplate.
