Instead of cells there were bedrooms they had their own keys for. They had their names not numbers. Instead of guards they had new family with the "brother - sister" mentorship schemes. It made all the difference in the world to their brain development and healing. They were as spinning tops that needed someone to place a gentle steady hand upon their shoulders and make it stop - to give them enough inner peace to start figuring out a new and better way to live and relate to the world. The prison reforms were an important part of social regeneration, of making us real communities once more.
