The baby born today had no hand in creating a patriarchy, and so, whilst we must push onwards with equal rights for women and girls, with women's access to education, health care and the necessities of living, let us do it with a sense of balance. Let us remember our sons even as we speak of our daughters. For the sensitivity of the human brain, male or female, requires that all feel loved and valued. They nuance of what we say and how we say it matters very much.
It's good to see yourself as a feminist regardless of your gender or sexual orientation; it's bad to have an anti-male stance that puts down men and boys. As a mother of sons I have never tolerated females saying anti-male statements around them, "all men are..." followed by something derogatory, is something I take a stance against. Let us ensure that the way we speak female rights is not harming the feelings of self worth our son's need for their emotional development and feelings of self-worth. Even in a patriarchal system, there are plenty of vulnerable boys who need every bit of love and support they can get.
