Kevin offered his open hand to shake, and Mike took it. For a moment they were absorbed by the warm smile of the other, a moment of honesty in so many years of needless social chasms. They sat on the nearby bench and looked into the far horizon. Kevin spoke first. "Every society has the older generation who want things a certain way, who have hostile opinions. I believe we are all ready to move on from that. It's hate. It's prejudice. At the end of the day, the Jew - Gentile difference is a matter of perception. Genetically we've got genes much the same as each other. Each population has it's geniuses, each population has people of different abilities and talents. We are all sacred under God, all equally loved and valued. Of course the dinosaurs won't see it that way. They never do. But the future is made by the young. Honestly, everyone values their faith, but as Wells said, it's lunacy to think you know someone by putting them in some ethnic category or other."
Mike nodded. "All these hatreds, they are no more sophisticated than the old witch hunts, the idea that one could harm or kill another not because of any crime or fault of that person, but because of a group they are assumed to belong to. I hope that we're all better than that. Human is human, love is love. I guess we're gonna be family pretty soon."

There was an intelligence to the old Jew, the kind that made you want to pull up a chair, sit closer and listen to his voice that rolled as smoothly as green hills.
There was nothing better than a hug from my Jewish grandmother, as if the sunshine over generations had seeped into her bones and was so generously given through her loving arms.
The Jewish man had a hint of the warm middle east about him, something that reminded me of good times and good friends.
