It was an ecological wedding, they only requested that each guest write a poem about love in the wedding-memories book, and that they let that be their heartfelt wishes be their everlasting gift.
We got married in the band-stand at the park. The flowers there grew from the blessed soil and the trees arched into the bluest of skies. Our music was the birds and the ocean waves nearby. Aside from the bride and groom, folks wore their jeans and casual clothes, just the same as at any family gathering. It was all the sweeter for its informality and the focus on their love.
We wanted to drop the egotistical traditions for things so much more heart-warming and sweet. The flowers were in pots and recycled from wedding to wedding, the gown was once my grandmothers. Everyone wore their Sunday best, "no new outfits" was the order of the day. We need to be able to tell any children we may have, that we started this marriage on the right foot, with one another and nature. If it wasn't ecological, we didn't want it.
We hired our clothes and the jewellery too, and we looked as good as anyone ever did on their wedding day. Our venue was the woodland chapel and our food was as local and vegan as we could. It was our ecological wedding. It was our love for one another and this world writ large right from the start.
