Falling in love takes a courage he didn't possess. He was shopping with magic store trick-money upon retractable strings. She never stood a chance and it's little wonder she felt so cheated. The love affair was doomed from the start because of his emotional-thrift.
She made every romantic leap and he made none, as the years went by she grew tired and fell, breaking as she did. He sat there and laughed, called her names and became cruel, all to hide the fact that he'd never taken the leap of love at all.
He wasn't bad romance he was no romance, he never put his ego on the line show her how much he cared. She never got an engagement ring. He didn't take part in planning the wedding. It went on as it began, she did all the work and he expected her to feel lucky that he'd bothered to show up. A man who felt too superior to get on one knee and buy a ring, to put his heart out there in the open, he wasn't fit for marriage. The end was right there at the start, a doomed love affair.
Her love is a unicorn, but he never believed in unicorns, and so that was both the start and end of their story. Somethings are only real if you believe that they are.
