The most important factor in discoveries is your passion, your drive to find an answer that is needed by those you love. Then you become what you need to become, you create yourself in that fire of ongoing need that focuses everything that you are. And you do it because it feels as if the finding of the answer is your personal mission, your reason of being, your way of belonging and giving.
Much discoveries of the individual, and those those that accumulate in nations, are not to do with the intelligence of the people, but the rather the needs they have that enables them to take advantage of serendipity, lucky chance or providence (depending on how you see it). For example, if you were to walk through a forest and, when you returned, I asked you if you saw a golden leaf, it is unlikely you would know the answer. Yet, if what you needed to solve an urgent problem that had seized your curiosity and intellectual capital was a golden leaf, you surely would discover it, if not that day, but on another, and all by yourself. And from one discovery comes others, for ideas recombine with other ideas and further serendipity. Fortune does indeed favour the prepared mind and curious soul. Over time this can lead even the clever to suppose that some had greater biological potential, yet it is more the environment, the circumstance and the needs that harness that potential and drive it to build ever higher from these most simple of creative discoveries.
