There are times we respond to the greatest gifts in ways that perplex the guardian of nature. For plants such as clover, plants that feed the bees, that keep alive the very insects we need, would make wonderful lawns if that is how we wish to garden creation. What is a weed but a plant that has the right gifts to grow well even in a challenging environment? A plant that needs no chemicals, that survives well in all seasons is surely a gift. For this reason we planted a clover lawn, soft and pretty. Of course, the daisies came too, a few poppies and other wild flowers. We made pathways through it, planted a few holly young trees. It came to feel more soulful than the grass we had before, more unique and full of life - a banquet for nature instead of a green plain.
