This caffeine, this addictive drug that calls us to crave more of drinks that are less flavoursome than soup, it sends my brain into a scattered and distracted pattern the more I drink. Perhaps in this way it is similar to alcohol, though this is an upper and the other a downer. They both appear as a benefit if the consumption is mild, one to bring a feeling of energy and the other a feeling of calmness... yet in excess they are both a distraction that brings the brain into dysfunction. So we are addicted to the chemicals, but I fear that we are also addicted to the dysfunction instead of doing what we ought to do for ourselves and those we love... figuring out why we "check-out" in this way instead of seeking the loving bonds and ways of living that bring us true health.
...Remember to ask me about it later, we can giggle about it over some decaf coffee, it’s all I drink. Can you imagine this brain on caffeine, holy crap, I’d be burning holes in the carpet just by running around so fast. Anyway, enough of that. I’m a bit tired now and the kids will be home soon. Isn’t anyone missing you yet? ...
