Society fails to comprehend the harm to one person at the system level as it fails to comprehend the harm to one tree at the system level. It is a key part of what is broken in our world this refusal to see the individual as in a dynamic relationship with the whole.
The highly complex formula for air quality: more trees, less factories. There, now we're all geniuses.
Those days of good air quality allowed my lungs to expand and my soul to find its voice.
They have many scientific ways to speak of air quality, and that's important, science brings us a way of quantifying and proving what others may deny for selfish gains. Yet we feel it too. When we go from smog to fresh air, we feel the difference. We can measure it in our health, our emotions, our sense of joy. Of all the things every human and living part of creation needs for good health, a high quality of air is right up there at the top of the list.
Air quality was a thing we all had until the industrial revolution came along. I guess it would have eventually, somehow, somewhere, and it brought a lot of advancements we need. Yet to breathe good air, to drink good water, to eat good food... how can we have a quality of living without those things taken care of?
Air quality is what we evolved with, good clean air to fill each lung, produced by processes we knew nothing about. Yet it seems that as we learn more about how this air we need is made, it is polluted ever faster, trees are felled even faster... I'm not sure it's stupidity that's killing us... I think it's an inability to confront and deny our own greed.
