My visits to the nail salon became a part of my social world, it felt right, as if I'd been missing this girl time, this girly world, where women got together to talk and preen.
The nail salon held a therapeutic value beyond that which I ever felt from any doctors consult - ever. I felt beautiful for months after... all those feel good hormones and lower cortisol... that's a medical benefit, baby.
The nail salon was a place of relaxation, perhaps giving women the same sense of community and nurture that the men got from the pubs.
The nail salon with its calm white walls and soft pink pastel petals, was relaxing in a way that was challenging to replicate elsewhere. It was where I felt a bit more connected to the world, a bit more nurtured and bit more worthy of my own affection.
