Movie sets are boring. They are the opposite of what the end result is - we hope! Being on set requires a lot of patience. There are a lot of retakes that need a lot of attention to the smallest of details. So, if you are looking for an action packed career, maybe fly jet planes? But I reckon there's a need for attention to detail there too... so if you wanna come here, to la la land (yes, the people you'll work with are crazy) be meticulous, calm, well reasoned and realise that a lot of folks in this business have tempers of pure fire. You, your job, is to become their fire-break. Do you think you can do that?
The movie set was the doll house of the most OCD freak in Hollywood - if you were looking for some relaxing getaway, this was never gonna be that. But if you can wear clothes as if you belong on the catwalk in Milan and ooze an air of calm certainty, then welcome aboard princess, take a seat.
Perhaps the requirement for actors to get naked in front of all the crew so often was a reason our parties were so out of hand. We got accustomed to things that weren't normal as, well, normal. Movie sets weren't places for notions of body privacy or sexual shyness.
I swear the movie set clock ticked louder as the day went on, that the hands moved slower and the chairs got harder, less comfortable. Man, it was a long long time since I first walked on a movie set, so many years ago, all giddy with excitement. I guess the joy is still there in a way, but in reality, you've gotta be tough to make it in this town, in this business. That's the way it is.
